Diabetes Self-Management Training Class*
A seven-hour class for people with diabetes and a support person.
- Recommended for people newly diagnosed with diabetes, those who need a refresher course or for people who are poorly controlled
- Comprehensive class includes information about the disease process, medications, carbohydrate counting and healthy eating, complications, blood glucose monitoring, exercise and stress management
- Daytime or evening hours available
- Taught by Certified Diabetic Educators
*ZCH’s Diabetes Self-Management Education class is certified by the State of Michigan and has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association for Quality Self-Management Education. Check with your insurance provider about your benefits.
Individual Training and Meter Training
For those with diabetes, pre-diabetes or gestational diabetes.
One-on-one appointments with a registered nurse/certified diabetes education, registered dietitian and/or a medical social worker.
- Instruction on insulin, intensive insulin therapy, insulin pump training, meter training , continuous glucose monitoring and Byetta or Symlin administration
- Meter training, which includes a free meter
- Accommodations made for those who have learning, vision, hearing or language barriers
Medical Nutrition Therapy
Individual appointments with a Registered Dietitian to help patients achieve:
- Blood glucose goals
- Optimal blood lipid levels
- Appropriate calories for reasonable weight
- An understanding of carbohydrate counting
- Improved health through optimal nutrition
Physician consultation with an endocrinologist
